This week, we begin an examination of the uprising of opposition to the work on Jerusalem's wall. No sooner had the wall begun to be restored than those hostile rise up against the project. The first wave of which is examined in today's text: mockery. Jeering and jesting at the effort of God's people as seemingly futile and hopeless.
The mockery of Christ's church is nothing new, but that doesn't mean it's insignificant. God identifies with his own, and will come to their defense. We have nothing to fear, in fact only to expect. For in the church's opposition the gospel thrives.
