Jesus promises that identifying with him in a sinful world will not be easy. Shedding the light of the gospel on those hiding in darkness will guarantee hostility and opposition; and the disciple needs to be prepared for this. Prepared to suffer, prepare to be ostracized, even prepare to die. But what one gains in Christ is worth ever trial and then some. Those who endure to the end will receive what the world could never offer, but only the God-Man in his blood: eternal life.
